Best Hikes Sedona is my first new Falcon Guide in quite a while. Though based on my earlier books, Hiking Arizona and Hiking Northern Arizona, all the descriptions have been completely rewritten and greatly expanded. Concise trail descriptions, expanded local information, detailed color maps and color photos of 55 easy-to-follow trails, Best Hikes Sedona allows hikers of all levels to enjoy beautiful views, get fit in the outdoors, and learn about the region’s history. Best Hikes Sedona provides the latest information to plan a customized trip:

  • Common and lesser-known hikes
  • Full-color photos, maps, detailed trail descriptions, and trailhead GPS
  • Insightful hike overviews, details on distance, difficulty, canine compatibility, and more

On Solo Hiking

Superstition Mountains

Backpacking—in particular my solo trips—changed my life. And it all started when, at 15, I talked a couple of friends into checking out the local Explorer Scout post. The Explorer Scout program is an alternative to Senior Scouting for kids aged 15 to 18. Instead of being organized as a Boy Scout troop, Explorer posts are run as a club, with officers elected by the members. Each post has an adult advisor.
